Senior Portfolio: Anxiety

I spent the spring 2014 semester working on a personal project for my senior portfolio class. I chose to do work on the topic of anxiety, which is something I've struggled with for as long as I can remember. This is a project that I did more for myself than for the class, the grade, or approval of anyone else, and it proved to be extremely cathartic. I moved completely out of my photographic comfort zone and tried things I hadn't done before. I drew inspiration from the photographer Francesca Woodman and primarily shot in the dark, doing long exposures. It was difficult and vulnerable, but I'm happy with the body of work I've produced.

Here are my 10 final images I submitted for the portfolio:

Salsa Loca Live | Sac State

Each year, Sacramento State's student organization UNIQUE puts on an event called Salsa Loca Live. Salsa Loca Live 2014 took place last night, and was comprised of dance lessons, several DJ sets, and two sets by the Grammy-winning Latin big band Pacific Mambo Orchestra. It was so much fun photographing the band and everyone having a good time on the dance floor.

Zumba Glow | Sac State

Last week, I photographed a Zumba Glow party in the Union Ballroom at Sacramento State. It was a challenging shoot since it was dark besides the bright clothing and glow sticks glowing in the black light, but I had so much fun playing around with some long exposures.

San Jose Taiko | Sac State

The first event I shot this semester as a student photographer for the University Union was a Taiko drumming group from San Jose, California, who came to Sacramento State back in January. Looking back on this semester, San Jose Taiko is still one of my favorites of all of the events that I had the pleasure of photographing.

Track and Field | Mondo Mid-Major Challenge

On Saturday, Sacramento State hosted the Mondo Mid Major Challenge with UC Davis; University of Nevada, Las Vegas; University of Nevada, Reno; Fresno State and Portland State. Sac State's men finished first with 186 points, and women finished third with 124 points.
